Foshan Open’s Youngest Competitor Taking A Mature Approach
2015-10-21 23:27:38

With players from worldwide due to compete for US$500,000 in prize money in the upcoming Foshan Open, this will be the biggest golf tournament by far for 14 year-old Liang En-qi from Guangzhou. Yet he isn’t going to let the occasion go to his head.
“I will obviously try to play my best,” he says. “But I won’t go into the tournament trying to beat the other players. If I score better over the course than I have done in my previous rounds at Foshan, then I’ll have achieved my goal.”

Liang qualified for the Foshan Open after winning the Guangdong Junior Championship at Foshan in searing hot conditions.
“The heat made conditions very tough so I’m very glad to have held my game together, particularly my putting, and qualify,” he said.

2015 has been a very successful year so far for the Guangzhou youngster. In July he won the highly prestigious FCG International Junior Championship (13-14 years section) in San Diego with scores of 66 and 73. The win was clearly a timely boost for his confidence going into the Guangdong Junior Championship in August.

Liang’s sees the foreseeable future as one of further improvement of both skill and experience.
“I aim to continue playing lots of tournaments,” he says. “If I get a chance to go and study and play golf in the US, I would take it.”

We wish Liang a successful Foshan Open and feel sure that he will inspire other youngsters to take up the sport after watching him.
