Good news for spectators! The golfer with the ‘larger than life’ personality, Joel Sjoholm, will play in the upcoming Foshan Open. The 30 year old from Sweden is one of the most popular figures on the European Challenge Tour with his happy, outgoing nature and his colorful dress sense, a sponsor’s dream and a big attraction for spectators.

Nicknamed ‘El Toro’ (Spanish for the bull) by one of his coaches when he was a young teenager practicing in Spain.
“My temperament was quite close to one of those bulls so my coach gave me that name when I was 13 and it’s remained ever since,” says Joel.

Joel was born in Chile and adopted by Swedish parents when he was just three months old, his talent at golf allowed him to enroll for a golf scholarship at Georgia State University and he became one of the most successful players in US College Golf. His success spurred him on to turn pro, which he duly did in 2008.

He is a keen football and ice hockey fan.
“In football, I support Chelsea in the English Premier League,” he says. “My uncle was living in London and so I went to watch a match there and that was that. I usually manage to go and see them play at least once a year.”

“We’re very happy that Joel is coming to Foshan,” says Keith Hardman, General Manager of Foshan Golf Club. “He will be a great addition to the tournament and I’m sure spectators will have an entertaining time watching him.”

Part of the European Challenge Tour's all-important season ending series, the prize of 2015 Foshan Open has risen over 40% from USD350,000 to USD500,000. As one of the three ECT tournaments with highest prize, the prize of champion has risen to USD80,000.
