Foshan Open Champion, Jason Palmer, earns spot in US Open

Our own champion, Jason Palmer, continues to steadily climb up the world golfing ladder. The popular 28 year old Englishman shot rounds of 69 and 68 in the US Open Qualifier at Walton Heath, near London to finish as one of the leading 11 players who will play in golf’s third Major of the year.

“I’m absolutely thrilled. I’ve always wanted to play in a Major,” said Palmer. “At the end of last year I went from 50th on the Challenge Tour to having a win, a second place, and being on the European Tour and now this. I’m having an incredible time. I love the game of golf and, at the moment, it is being good to me”

Now gaining fame throughout the golfing world for his unique one-handed chipping method, Palmer may find himself as somewhat of a celebrity with spectators at the US Open.

“I doubt there have been many one-handed chippers at the US Open before,” he said. “The rough might be a bit too deep to play one-handed so I’ll have to assess it when I get there, but it is a problem I’m looking forward to have. To play the US Open is an absolute dream come true and it definitely hasn’t sunk in yet.”

It seems that the days when Palmer was considering giving up the game are just a distant memory now. His confidence was at its lowest due to his struggles with chip shots from just off the green.

“There is no way I’d be competing as a professional if I didn’t find this one-handed method,” he said. “It has saved my career.”

Also qualified for the US Open is Shiv Kapur. The globetrotting Indian pro is well known to Foshan Open fans for his joint second place finish in the inaugural 2013 event.

You can follow both Palmer’s and Kapur’s progress in the US Open at Chambers Bay on June 18-21.
