When the champion holds up the Canton Cup, you will definitely be attracted by the modern design and the trophy story.

As the Foshan Open trophy, Canton Cup is made by Chinese famous artist—Master May. The trophy body consists of White、Yellow and Black waves, which embrace the central golf balls. The base design comes from the Foshan traditional architecture, with white, yellow and black colors combined together. The three colors stand for people with white, yellow, black and brown colors. The trophy not only stands for the players who are from all over the world, but also means golf, as a tie, to bring the international elements to Foshan traditional culture, and that’s why the trophy is named as “Canton Cup”.

 As we all know, in the thousands years history, Canton brings its oriental cultures to the world step by step, promotes the global civilization. Until now, Cantonese is the first language in the China Town in more than 60 countries around the world. Canton culture symbolizes the Chinese culture with its advanced and responsible ethnic image. Our slogan, “Foshan—teeing off before the world”, has the best wishes of the Canton circle.

“We are very satisfied with the trophy”, says the General Manager of Foshan Golf Club,“ We have visited Master May many times to talk about the designing concept and the shape. From the first beginning lion design to the abstract dragon image, and finalized Canton Cup, we think it shows the golf’s spirits. We are sure that when people see this trophy, they will think of Foshan Open automatically. We believe it will be most unique design of all the trophies ever.

Ceramic is one of the most important elements in Foshan culture. Foshan has become the world’s biggest production base since 1980s. Among all the producing places, Shiwan is the most impressive one without doubt. Shiwan has the reputation of “world’s miracle”recorded in the history book. Therefore, when we are looking for the trophy for Foshan Open, we think of ceramic without second thoughts, and we target the trophy designer to Master May - the council of Foshan Ceramic Art Club.

Since Master May decided to take the trophy design task, he is very careful because the trophy will be his very first golf trophy. From the three waves embrace the event logo, imitating the awake lion with the meaning of “Dream comes true”to the dragon shake, he made many scripts and finally made this trophy design. Master May pays all his attention, every details to the production of the “Canton Cup”, and whole process takes about several months. After burning in the 1,200 degree, it finally comes out to the world. On August 28th, International Policy Director from European Challenge Tour, Mr.Ben Cowen, visited Master May to watch the production on site. He was very impressed by the unique design and the story behind this trophy.

Ceramic origins from China and the its invention is a great contribution to the world. In English, china has become the symbol of “China”. Ceramic comes to the western worlds through the ancient silk road. Nowadays, the sports of golf has come to China to spread its charm. Foshan Open provides a great platform to combine the Eastern and Western culture together.

About Master May:

Master May Wending, Chinese famous ceramic and senior technology artist. He was born in the year of 1940 in Taishan, Guangdong. He was graduated from Guangzhou Art school in the year of 1962, and begin ceramic design in Shiwan. Now he is the chairman of Foshan ceramic art club.

In the beginning of 1980s, he leads the modern Shiwan ceramic movement, and advocates to bring the ancient Chinese culture and modern Western art together. According to his theory, he has made many masterpieces.

Master May achieved many success in the artist industry. Not many people can compete him with his calligraphy, drawing and the ceramic research. He has been invited to Hong Kong, Taiwan, the USA, Morocco, Japan to be the lecturer, and spares his effort to spread his knowledge to the young generation as well.
