2013-09-13 13:37:28

Foshan Golf Club and China Golf Association are planning a special tournament for the country’s top juniors which will see the leading two players earn highly valuable places in the upcoming US$350,000 Foshan Open on October 17th-20th.

Called the Foshan Open Amateur Invitational, it will be played over 36 holes of stroke play on September 14th and 15th. China Golf Association has invited each provincial sports bureau or golf association to send two leading junior golfers to vie for the opportunity of a place in the inaugural Foshan Open which is jointly sanctioned by the European Challenge Tour and the China Golf Association and will include some of the world’s brightest young talents who have recently turned pro. As home province, Guangdong has the privilege of inviting six of its leading juniors.

“We want give the China’s rising teenage golfing stars as much opportunity as possible to play in a high level international pro event,” said Keith Hardman, General Manager of Foshan Golf Club. “Many of the international players are only five or six years older than the juniors. It will be a great opportunity for the juniors to learn what standard they need to achieve to not only match but also outperform these guys in a few years time.”

China Golf Association will send a full complement of officials to run the qualifying tournament. Should more than two players tie for the leading places, there will be a sudden death play-off to decide which two go through to the Foshan Open.
