Perez finished four rounds with 269 (68-65-67-69, -19), and with a dramatic play-off victory over Robert Macintyre from Scotland, he lifted the Canton Cup and received USD 80,000 prize money. Moving up to the second place on the road to Ras Al Khaimah, he also secured his 2019 European Tour card. “I can start looking forward to next year with new tournaments and a different schedule. It’s an achievement that I can’t really put into words. Pulling in a win in the biggest week of the year is unbelievable.” The fist pumping and jubilation that followed showed just how massively important this win was to him.

His phenomenal putt on 18th Hole and mighty shot in the playoff sent the Foshan crowd into frenzy. While tension was running high, he also impressed all on site with his confidence and composure. “It is actually really hard to get into the top 15 bubble. The schedule is tight, demanding not just skills, but also endurance and concentration. If I care too much about what people talk about me, I couldn’t focus on my game. And that focus is crucial for the triumph today.”

Perez also took part in the Foshan Open Long Putt Challenge after round 3. “This was the first time for me to play such an innovative game. It is a party for professionals, lady players, sponsors and spectators to have fun together. The Foshan Open is really amazing!”
