As the Foshan Open is approaching, we prepare Letter Codes from A to Z for you to know more about the event. 

A - Armitage

In 2016, the Englisman Marcus Armitage did not arouse much attention during the first three days. But he outperformed in the final round like a dark horse and won the first European Challenge Tour tournament of his career with a one shot victory, total score 269 (69-68-65-67), 19 strokes under par.

 

B - Birdie

The fairways of the tournament course are wide and easy for birdie catching. In the first round of the Foshan Open 2015, 364 birdies were born, which is almost the number one player can reach in a single year.

Focusing on the development of local communities, the tournament committee has made donations, organized visits and golf clinics for disadvantaged groups. Apart from promoting golf culture and positivity, these activities also acquainted them to the charm of golf. This year, golf clinic was arranged again for teachers and students from Guangzhou Huiling and money was raised during New World China Friendship Tournament for the Foshan Red Cross Hospital School in the loving August.

The 18-hole championship course of the Foshan Golf Club is challenging enough for talents from home and abroad. For example, the 471-yard Hole 17, is intricated with water hazards around the green, requiring a lot of attention and accuracy. In 2017, with 148 bogeys, the average score of Hole 17 is 4.45 strokes!

As an important station of the European Challenge Tour, the Foshan Open is a key way for players to step on the international stage. Champions all got their cards to the European Tour.

 

F - Foshan

In October 2013, the European Challenge Tour-Foshan Open was born. Apart from the heated competitions on course, there is also traditional culture and custom of Foshan for the international spectators, such as the impressive lion dance at the awards ceremony.

As one of the most prestigious annual sporting events in South China, Foshan Open boasts of an environmental friendly course at the Foshan Golf Club, certified by the international Golf Environment Organization (GEO) in 2013 and in 2016.

 

H - Hole in one

In the past five years, four players hit hole-in-one in the Foshan Open. The 18-year-old local golfer Zhang Zihong did it last year. With impressive performance at the inaugural Greater Bay Pro Tournament, Zhang will also compete in the Foshan Open this year.

“The food is very delicious,” said Alexander Knappe, the Runner-up of the Foshan Open 2016. “And I can use chopsticks now.” Tapio Pulkanen, the first Finnish winner of the European Challenge Tour Rangkings 2017, visited the IP Man Memorial Hall with three others: “Chinese Kung Fu is incredible.” When speaking of the Foshan Golf Club, Ben Stow from England said: “With quality fairways and greens, this is one of the best courses I've ever played.”

In order to support the golf development in China, the Best Chinese Player award has been established since 2013, and the prize is gold jewelry provided by the world-famous brand Chow Tai Fook. Cao Yi, who were born in the year of horse, was awarded with a gold horse named “Fire” in 2014, the year of horse. In 2016, Chen Zihao, the Foshan Open Ambassador, was given the “Nine Fish Bring Good Luck”. In 2015, Zhang Huilin got a jade pendant called “Auspicious”, and in 2017, “Leaping over the Dragon Gate”.

Chase Koepka, the younger brother of this year's two-time Major winner Brooks Koepka, played at the 2017 Foshan Open and finished tied for 20th with 284 strokes (70-70-71-73). He also made it to the top 15 on the European Challenge Tour Ranking and successfully obtained his European Tour card.

 

L - Lin

Though as a golf professional male tournament, the Foshan Open invited a beautiful lady Janet Lin to be its ambassador. Last year, Lin guided spectators through fun games at the village zones and interviewed players during the tournament. Playing at the Rio Olympics as a national team member, Lin became the first Chinese female player to hit a hole-in-one.

M - Mascot

In 2015, worked with a Disney consultant designer, the Foshan Open launched its mascot - Doudou, who loves golf and has a very lovely girlfriend and soon became the highlight of the carnival.
