European Challenge Tour

Since its inception in 1989, the European Challenge Tour has developed into a proven training ground. The Challenge Tour has a very distinct personality, characterized by the relative youth of the golfers playing the Tour with a recognized golf development pathway from the grass root level to aspiring tournament professionals.

With an international schedule stretching from Asia to South America, Africa and Europe, the Challenge Tour is creating a unique pathway to empower the next generation of golf’s superstars.

It is the goal of the Challenge Tour to reward good performances with further opportunities to compete. There are different ways of gaining regular playing opportunities, firstly with the top 15 players in fully sanctioned events automatically gaining entry to the next sanctioned Challenge Tour event.

Challenge Tour events carry World Ranking Points on average for the top 14 finishers in the event. And the system of qualification for the Olympics will be based upon the Official World Golf Rankings.

The Challenge tour was now seen as a stage for less prominent golfing nations to showcase their country’s finest golf courses, while simultaneously giving their professionals the opportunity to make a major career breakthrough.

During the 1990s, the Challenge Tour began to spread its wings as Russia, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey all hosted tournaments for the first time; before long Europe’s top young players were travelling as far afield as South America, the Far East and Africa to compete for larger and larger prize funds.

Until today, there are 29 competitions held in 21 country or areas for European Challenge Tour.
